Established in 1975, Heiltsuk Cultural Education Centre operates under the auspices of the Heiltsuk Tribal Council in service to the Heiltsuk Nation. The Centre seeks to promote awareness and appreciation of Heiltsuk heritage and culture at home and abroad, and to support preservation, revitalization, and continued cultural development. The HCEC integrates an interdisciplinary approach to the documentation and understanding of Heiltsuk culture and heritage through 10 program areas including: Resource Centre / Library / Archives; Oral history and Archival Research; Heiltsuk Language Studies; Conservation (heritage site protection and investigation, repatriation); Museum; Cultural Education; Administration; Facilities Development; Staff Training; Elders Program.
